I really didn't intend to go to a Half Price Books Tent Sale. I was just there like I normally am and they happened to be having a tent sale. I couldn't not go out to the parking lot. I had never been to one! And to be fair only that right pile is from the tent sale. I had been wanting to do a week in books post for awhile now and thought this would be the perfect time.
So let's see:
Normally priced Half Price Books books (Left pile, top six)- Lenore pointed out the book The Myth of You & Me about a week or so ago in the comments of Melissa Walker's post about Best Friend Breakups . Some other new releases mostly YA and a book about books! This was my original intent in going to HPB, after returning the Tent Sale books to the car we went back into the store.
New independent bookstore (Left pile, next two)- Today was their grand opening, big article in Friday's newspaper. I bought The Overachievers and got a "free classic" (Wuthering Heights).
ARCS (Left pile, next three)- Librarything's Early Reviewer's Summer Blowout, which I am reading right now, 20 Fragments of a Ravenous Youth, and The No Complaining Rule (thanks J. Kaye!)
Bookmooch (Left pile, bottom four)- Freakonomics what! I love that book, I only got to read half of it about a year ago before having to return it to the library.
Half Price Books Tent Sale Books- Flowers in the Attic, Melissa Walker talked about this "classic" in her vlog on YA New York this week, I feel really bad, I mooched a copy yesterday and found this one today so I canceled it! :( A hardcover copy of Nick and Norah's Playlist for a dollar! what!!
I also bought several books I had already, that were better copies or paperbacks so i could swap out my big hardcovers! So I gave my bookmooch inventory a nice bulk up today.
I also got a few things for some giveaways! So look for the first any day now!
What book(s) did you buy this week that you probably shouldn't have?
I received three ARCs - I don't remember what they are off right now, since I had to put them aside for my kids' Tae Kwon Do tournament today.
ReplyDeleteI bought these three that came yesterday: Nathan Coulter by Wendell Berry, Half-Assed: A Weight Loss Memoir, and Flyte: Septimus Heap Bk. 2 for a read-aloud with the kids.
I am seriously going to have to come to your house and steal about half of those books. You got some good stuff. Nice find with the retro copy of "Flowers in the Attic," btw. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat pile of books! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment on J.Kaye's blog and had to check out what you got! LOL Wow, there are some great books in that stack! I saw you have Laurie Notaro's book "We Thought You Would Be Prettier", I love Notaro- I am always laughing out loud when I read her books. My favorite is "I Love Everybody and Other Atrocious Lies". Have you read Notaro before?
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment at J.Kaye's blog, too. Wowee, you had a fun week! I got two ARCs and one library sale book (The Debut by Anita Brookner). Even better, I got rid of several on Paperback Swap -- need to work on weeding a bit, here, so I can get some new pretties and not feel guilty. :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun reading!
I have not bought any this week but did receive ARCS in the mail of Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell, Guernica by Dave Boling, and The Forbidden Daughter by Shobhan Bantwal to name a few
ReplyDeleteHave fun reading. You picked up some good books
Wow, that's awesome. Too bad the closet Half Price Books is over an hour away. I got a couple cheap books from Borders bargain stacks though. Still, nothing like what you got!
ReplyDeleteCarrie K.- I look forward to reading your reviews of the ARCs. I wonder if we have any that are the same. I only showed what I literally got this week.
ReplyDeleteSabrina- Hey! You probably should, I have too many! While I was there I thought hmm wonder if they have any copies of Flowers in the Attic, looked down at a stack of books and there it was! Pretty awesome!
J. Kaye- They are sitting on the floor right now whoops, no where for them to go!
Icecream- Thanks for visiting! I have read Notaro's, The Idiot Girl's Action Adventure Club and I think a tiny bit of I Love Everybody. I've collected a lot of her books I have that horrible problem of buying way more than I can read. Someday someday!
Bookfool- Thank you for visiting as well! I did have a fun weekend! Which ARC's did you get? I know, my books are about to burst out of my room. Bookmooch is helping though, except for me mooching myself...
Cheryl- You must be in the Library Thing ARC Junkie's group, I didn't request those but I noticed people saying they got them this week! I always become interested in the books other people request after the fact, not sure why I'm not right away. I guess that's how you know the reviews work!
Ambeen- That is too bad. Every few months just make a special day trip out there. Have a nice lunch. Go to some other bookstores. That's what I do, and the two stores I go to are only like 20-30 minutes away. I like making an event out of it!
I don't have any "I shouldn't have ..." confessions; I guess I'm not feeling too guilty about this week's additions :)
ReplyDelete*Freakonomics* is such a great book. I enjoy their column in the NYT Magazine when it runs.
sheistoofondofbooks- I hope the coming weeks bring in less books, but at the same time I don't! I haven't read their column before, I'll have to see if I can't find an online archive! I really liked the part of the book I read awhile back. I think I'll start it over.
ReplyDeleteI am always sssoooo jealous of people who get to go to these type of sales. We never have this stuff in Montreal and if we do, its always for French books!!! I can't believe all the great titles you got!!!! Enjoy!!!
