Tuesday Thingers!

Today's question: Awards. Do you follow any particular book awards? Do you ever choose books based on awards? What award-winning books do you have? (Off the top of your head only- no need to look this up- it would take all day!) What's your favorite award-winning book?

I guess I've never paid too much attention to them. I remember when I was a kid I think I knew a few of the award winners for the children's awards. I love to read the Entertainment Weekly Best of the Year issue and it always has the best books of the year. I don't think I've ever read anything just because it won an award though. I do try and eventually watch all the Academy Award nominated films unless it's something that looks really awful. I'll read award lists and also the best of blah blah blah lists. I think it would be fun to read  selections off of a list, say as a challenge. But I already have tons of books to read so maybe another time! ;) Favorite award winning book? No idea! Did the Great Gatsby win anything?

Do you have a favorite award winning book?

I know what you mean. I'm participating in the Book Awards Challenge II and I'm wondering what I was thinking about when I signed up for it. My pile of books is getting out of hand. I'm not complaining mind you - it's a good problem.

  2. I love the Entertainment Weekly book reviews in general. They've introduced me to a lot of books I wouldn't have otherwise known about!

  3. Like you I don't usually pay much attention to the awards. I've come to realize though that the Printz Award means squat. I've read several books that got it and have been underwhelmed. I usually enjoy Newbury Medal winners though.

Oh, I also will usually buy a book if it won the Christy Award (Christian fiction).

I think it was Out of Africa that turned me off on the Academy Award nominated films. Of course, one has to be insane to miss them. :) I do pay attention...it can't be helped.

I read the book award lists and might make a mental note of a winner, but the awards don't drive my reading choices.

As for movies, we Netflix most everything we see. I have the bad habit of clicking "add that to my queue" when the program suggests something I might like ... my husband usually cleans up the queue by substituting recent releases and award winners (I like independent and foreign films, he can't stand subtitles; yet, it works for us!)

  6. bermudaonion-LOL! Yes probably one of the better problems to have!

    s. krishna- Yes they are great! Reading ARC's recently I've been looking to see if they review anything I've already read. I love that magazine!

amee- I feel like the academy awards mean nothing too, except that I'll like the ones nominated but not the ones that win. lol.

    J. Kaye- Yeah. I just love following them!

sheistoofondofbooks- Oh me too! I've added tons of things to my queue and end up going" Oh goodness what is this!" I love foreign films. Secret, I actually sometimes watch movies in English with subtitles. It's easier then having to go back and rewatch something if someone mumbles. It's just turned into a habit
