This Year In Movies: September

I watched 11 movies this months and one tv show season. Looking back this month was full of some great stuff. Frankly it's usually a bunch of so-so stuff. But this month was great!

Cry-Baby- This John Waters movie kept popping up on the Netflix Recommends page so I decided I needed to watch it. It was funny.

The Life Before Her Eyes- This was a really good movie. Beautiful flower imagery, great, moving plot. Made me cry. GOOD MOVIE!

21- This was a fun movie. I picked up the book it was based on, Bringing Down the House. I have a feeling that might be more interesting. I liked the lead guy in Across the Universe much more than in this movie.

Baby Mama- Funny! The movie has a twist, I think I would have liked it more if it stuck to what we were to assume from the trailer. Great cameo part from Steve Martin. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are so funny together!

Outsourced- This was a sweet movie about an American man that goes to India to train his replacement, his division has been outsourced. There is a lot of culture clashing going on but also understanding as well. Good!

Burn After Reading- Wow was this movie funny!! Did anyone else see this, the whole theatre was just cracking up. Pretty sure the advertising images were based off of Hitchcock's posters designed by Saul Bass, which is awesome!

The Fall- This was another great movie. By the man that directed The Cell. This movie is far less creepy though. A very talented little girl stole the show!

Ghost Town- Funny but not as funny as The Office (UK Original version) or Extras. Ricky Gervais was almost too serious. He has a great laugh and we hardly got to hear it

Speed Racer- Ok. I can see why this didn't do so well. It was just meh. I was surprised I didn't hate it, not really into race cars.

Made of Honor- Funny! I especially liked the very beginning, 20 years ago part. I wish that was more of the movie.

30 Rock Season 1- Good good good! This has a very strong cast of comedians. Great plot lines. Made me cry from laughing several times.

Flakes- Sweet little movie about competing cereal bars. Got it because Zooey Deschanel was in it.

Here's the trailer for The Fall. See doesn't that look good!

What was the best thing you saw in September?

  2. Okay, I've been completely addicted to One Tree Hill and spent most of September watching old episodes on SOAP. :)

  4. I watched Outsourced as well and really enjoyed it! My non-Indian husband's family said that they wish they'd watched it before our crazy Indian wedding.

  5. Lenore- That's pretty high up in my queue. The preview for the season made it look AWESOME! Burn After Reading was a great movie!

keri mikulski :) - Thankfully my sister has seasons 1-3 of One Tree Hill. I think I missed a lot of Season 3. I'm tempted to go back and start at the beginning. The main thing I'm lost on in the current season or the last few is everything having to do with Peyton's mother and family. I missed all of that! Made of Honor was cute!

    J. Kaye- Thanks!

    s. krishna- It was a sweet movie! Hehe. From what I'v seen in movies (I'm a big fan of Bollywood and other Indian movies) Indian weddings are beautiful! I remember a few pictures from your wedding, looks like they are beautiful in real life too!

  8. I started watching Season 3 of The Wire on Netflix... definitely better than Season 2.

I wanted to see Flakes (saw that is was available through cable on the independent film channel) because of Zooey as well, but haven't gotten around to it. I'll have to get on that.

  9. Lenore- When does Season 3 start? I'll have to find a preview, but not until I watch Season 2! Can't spoil it for myself!

Amee- Didn't McDreamy look young at the beginning. I love how, hair, clothes, makeup can make a person look so young or old! I'm on a Tina Fey kick right now, first Baby Mama and now 30 Rock! She's one talented lady. When she's paired with Amy Poehler it's glorious!

Heather- I've never seen the Wire, what is it about? Flakes was a cute little indie movie, I was totally eating cereal during it at one point too, how could you not!

  10. I was not expecting to, but I loved Superbad. I also enjoyed Babel and Paris je t'aime. And, though I've seen it before, I'm working on watching the complete Arrested Development. The one movie I didn't really like, to my surprise, was Juno.

  11. charley- I love all three of those movies as well. Arrested Development is amazing I love that show. Aww you didn't like Juno, that's a bummer. I really liked that movie. Any certain reasons?
