Questions: Do you have a LT widget on your blog? If so, what is your favorite thing about it? Have you had a chance to go see the all new widget building page, and if so, have you built a new widget? If so, what do you like about it?
Yes! I have two LibraryThing widgets on my blog! A Random Books from my Library widget (bottom right of blog) and a few months ago I started using a widget for my Currently Reading (top right) much easier than having to go find a cover everytime i start a new book! My Currently Reading widget is definitely my favorite, I love seeing what others are reading so I figured I'd display mine as well. I do have the nasty habit of sometimes starting books and then not touching them for months and those usually stay in the widget until I either finish it or give up and decide to start over at another time!
I haven't visited the new widget building page *goes to page* You know, I think I prefer the old ones, they are smaller. These new ones kind of look like GoodReads widgets which are too big and bulky for my taste. But I'm sure you can switch all sorts of things with the preferences. Does anyone know if the old styles still exist???? Like if I accidentally delete one of my existing widgets can I get it back, just how it is?
You might have to ask on lT, I haven't seen any way to get the old widgets back. Your widgets look nice the way they are. Mine didn't really match so well so I was happy to switch!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, new widgets? I must go look!!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is awesome! I'm new to LibraryThing and I can't figure out how to get the "currently reading" widget. All I can find is the random one. Can you help me out?
ReplyDeleteI want to know too, Alea! How did you get this widget? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteavisannschild and Lena (Since I couldn't click your name to comment you I'm going to write back to you here and hope you see it!)
ReplyDeleteWell, they have changed the widgets but but this will get you basically the same thing. These are the settings I changed, the rest I didn't.
Choose a Preset: One-cover basic black
Widget Type: Covers Only
Layout: Columns 1 Rows 1
Tags: Currently Reading
For the tags you have to go in and tag the books you are reading with the tag of your choice for it to work! In my case I use currently reading!
Let me know if that works for you!
And you can also change the background color (i didn't like the black) under customize!
ReplyDeleteI'm so out of it. I didn't know they had a currently reading widget! Although, I am bad about keeping that updated on my blog. I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alea! I was hoping there was some way to use that all-but-useless (as far as I can see) feature in LT where you can check off a box to indicate what you're currently reading, but no such luck. (Did that make sense? I hope so!) Your method sounds good too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!I'm a librarian and thought it would be cool for the kids to see what I'm reading on the website.
ReplyDeleteI have one more question for you, if you don't mind. How do I get back to the widget that I made and edit it?
Avis- I know what you are talking about, I've never used that before!
ReplyDeleteLena- Sure thing! Unfortunately I think you have to start from scratch and make a new one, I'm not sure of a way to edit them :(
It totally worked, Alea, and I'm happy I was able to figure out how to make the background colour match my blog's! (At first I'd made it white like yours but then realized that wouldn't look good on my blog!) Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteSure thing Avis! Glad it worked! I love widgets!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alea. You rock!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - I didn't notice if the old one is still available, but I would think they would leave it there. It was nice and sharp looking. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and participating in Thingers last week! I've got the post up for this week, have you re-styled Your Library lately? ~ Wendi
