Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?
SOULLESS is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.
Released September 29th 2009
Ok so I heard about this at BEA and grabbed a postcard to remind myself to go back and meet the author. I completely forgot to do so :/ Anyhow I can't get this book or it's cover out of my mind. It just sounds too good to be true. Count me IN!
What can't you wait for to be released?
"Waiting On" Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine!
Is it just me or does this book sound delightful? Great pick, Alea!
ReplyDeleteMust. Have. This. Book. Now.
ReplyDeleteSrsly.
That sounds hilar! There was just so much as BEA - you couldn't do everything! How much of your plan did you actually carry out anyway? I'm curious!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I want to read this one sooo bad as well. It just sounds amazing and I love the cover!!! I'm sorry you forgot to go back and meet the author.
ReplyDeleteAnd seriously, are ALL the awesome books coming out in September??
-Lauren

ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the cover I thought 'Mary Poppins noir edition'. I haven't heard of the book but it sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteDon't hate me, but on Friday, I mentioned to Amy that I loved the cover! Then, when I went back on Saturday the author just happened to be there signing books! I was so excited.
ReplyDeletei kinda like the cover esp the oink in the title really pops and draws you in
ReplyDeleteHaha, this sounds hilarious. But I'm getting sooo sick of the whole vamps vs. werewolves premise.
ReplyDeleteSounds great!! I've been wanting this one.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading this right NOW!
ReplyDeleteIt is delightful. It's so Mary Poppins meets paranormal is comical.
And I just love saying Miss Tarabotti. :)
What a sneak peak?!
Page 16:
The earl gave her generous curves a rude once-over, observed that Miss Tarabotti was nicely padded in exactly the right places, and refused to be suckered into becoming sympathetic. He maintained his frown. "I suspect that is precisely what the vampire was thinking when he found you without a chaperone. An unmarried female alone in a room in this enlightened day and age! Why, if the moon had been full, even I would have attacked you!"
Alexa gave him the once-over and reached for her brass parasol. "My dear sir, I should like to see you try."
Isn't it just amazing?! Loving it!
I just saw this one last night-looks so good and I love the cover.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a book i would love to read!
