An ancient prophecy divides two sisters- One good... One evil... Who will prevail? Twin sisters Lia and Alice Milthorpe have just become orphans. They have also become enemies. As they discover their roles in a prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other, the girls find themselves entangled in a mystery that involves a tattoo-like mark, their parents' deaths, a boy, a book, and a lifetime of secrets. Lia and Alice don't know whom they can trust. They just know they can't trust each other.
I found Prophecy of the Sisters to be a highly original novel, I don't think I've read anything like it. I often shy away from historical novels but this one I knew I had to pick up and I wasn't disappointed. The way the characters carry themselves and behave was really exciting for me, I wanted to be sitting in the parlor playing cards with Lia and Henry and going up to my room where a fire was burning.
For some reason I had decided this book was going to be really really scary, don't ask me why, because I have no idea! I was pleasantly surprised the way the paranormal elements in the book handled. Personally I wouldn't even begin to imagine how paranormal elements would look 100 years ago but I think the author created something that really works and seems authentic to this time period.
I loved how the story unraveled itself, secret markings, letters, keys, all sorts of things that we still don't yet know all the answers to because this is a series. I totally called one of the earlier twists but one closer to the end of the book sure blew my mind, I never ever saw that coming and it makes me wonder what the author has in store for us next, I for one can't wait! I do wonder if we will ever see things from Lia's sister, Alice's perspective, I think that could be rather interesting!

I've stayed away from this because I thought it'd be really scary. After reading your review, I see that I might be able to handle it. Sounds so different.
ReplyDeleteI've have yet to read this book. I have it just sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read. Thanks for the review, I'm going to have to read this next.
ReplyDeleteWow...then I am a bigger wuss than you? Because I was scared!
ReplyDeleteLenore- I guess I'm more scared of aliens and like next to impossible things lol.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it would be like to read Alice's perspective too. Although I'd be afraid I'd hate the book because I hated her. Or maybe it would be like a train wreck of evil so bad it's good?
ReplyDeleteI bought this one because the cover was really too pretty to pass up but I haven't gotten to it yet! After reading your review I think I need to move it further up in my TBR pile. THANKS! =)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this one before...this sounds intriguing...off to the tbr list it goes.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this book is creepy, but I still want to read it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely review, Alea!
