She was his last chance for a future of happiness…
A gifted fortune-teller from a humble background, Jenny can make even the most sophisticated skeptic believe her predictions simply by batting her smoky eyelashes. Until she meets her match in Gareth Carhart, the Marquess of Blakely, a sworn bachelor and scientist.
He just didn't know it yet
Broodingly handsome, Gareth is scandalized to discover his cousin has fallen under the spell of "Madame Esmerelda," and vows to prove Jenny a fraud. But his unexpected attraction to the fiery enchantress defies logic. Jenny disrupts every facet of Gareth's calculated plan—until he can't decide whether to seduce her or ruin her. Now, as they engage in a passionate battle of wills, two lonely souls must choose between everything they know…and the boundless possibilities of love.
While Proof by Seduction started slow for me (I will account it to the fact I'm still new to Historical Romance and anything historical in general) it ramped up quickly and I had a great time reading Jenny's story!
I felt like we really got to know Jenny and Gareth, so much of their past and family is explained it's really hard for you to dislike either of them or understand why they are exactly the way they are. I thought Jenny was very strong, she made her living in a dishonest way (she has a good reason), and decides to stop, she also takes care of herself, she doesn't get men to fight her battles and does what she can to support herself.
Gareth knows nothing but science, fact, and serious frowns. But then he meets Jenny who really sees him and sees how lonely and stuck with the title of Marquess of Blakely he is. And they are brought together by sweet Ned, the cousin of Gareth. I'm very excited to see that Courtney's next book, Trial By Desire, is Ned's story!!!!!
I thought the chemistry was great, fact vs fiction, have to's and wants. Jenny and Gareth sure test each other and I love it. Can't wait for the next story in this series!
