Hardcover vs Paperback 146

Briony has a secret. It is a secret that killed her stepmother, ruined her sister's mind, and will end her life, if anyone were to know. She has powers. Then Eldric comes along with his golden lion eyes and a great mane of tawny hair. He is as natural as the sun, and he treats her as if she is extraordinary. And everything starts to change . . . Chime is a haunting, brilliantly written novel that will stay with you--its magic, its romance, its world like none other.

Based on the covers this girl much be some kind of fairy or elf, look at how pale she is! To me the coloring of the hardcover is rather off-putting and really flattens to whole cover. On the paperback the girl's hair is just not working for me it doesn't look very real. Not really feeling either of these.

Thanks to Gail who suggested this H vs P!

  3. I prefer the paperback, but it seems quite bright for the "bog" setting of the village, which always felt dark and damp to me while I was reading. It's a nice touch that it has room for that very important sticker!

  5. This one is interesting to me. I think of two different kinds of thoughts when I see the covers. The hardcover seems dark and mysterious while the paperback lighter cover makes me think less mysterious and makes me think the book leans more towards a lighter toned story. I haven't read this book or even know what it's about but I see two different things in those covers. It's a toss up for me. I'd have to read the book to get a clear picture. Based on cover alone, I like the hardcover's darker theme better.

  6. Blech, I don't like either of these covers. This book is so smart and brilliant and weird and neither of these covers do it any kind of justice.
