Lookalikes 20

The President's Daughter by Ellen Emerson White

Christina's World (1948) by Andrew Wyeth

This is the original cover. I totally have that copy of the book from 1984 (pretty sure I didn't get it then considering I was one), no idea if I ever read it or where it came from!

Product Description from Amazon.com:

Sixteen-year-old Meghan Powers likes her life just the way it is. She likes living in Massachusetts. She likes her school. And she has plenty of friends. But all that is about to change. Because Meg’s mother, one of the most prestigious senators in the country, is running for President. And she’s going to win.

What do you think of these intentional lookalikes?

This is the first of 4 covers from this series based on famous paintings. Check back over the next few weeks to see the rest!

I'm doing the math here and figured out that you're only 25! Oh my gosh - I'm old enough to be your mother! I think the top cover is a little creepy.

  3. Oh, wow! I totally loved that book back in the 8th grade. Our local library had a copy and I would check it out once a month to read.

I'm probably biased, but I like the old cover better. The new cover makes her look very tormented, which isn't really the case in the book. She's got teen angst, and not too much more.

  7. Oh, I like it a lot! I like conscious references to the art world, though. I like the other cover, too, but I'd be more likely to pick up the new one.

  11. lenore- it's it a great idea, when i first saw them i was like NO WAY!

bermudaonion- LOL! Yes it is true, I'm 25!

lorin- Yeah she does look tormented! I really want to know where i got my copy of the book, i doubt anyone remembers! I was about to give it away, writing it off as randomness from when i was little but now it's going no where!

amee- I love the look of it too!

mrs. v.- I was able to find the old cover for the second one, it's pretty interesting as well!

veens- LOL! I agree with you there!

lana- It's so smart isn't it. This first one was the only one I couldn't identify right away, i had to do a bit of research but i think it's my favorite of the 4!

avisannschild- I hope you like the rest!

    J. Kaye- Thanks! I have some totally random weird ones coming up in a few weeks, we'll see what you say about those!

emily- Aww that sucks! This one was actually the only one i couldn't recall, care to share any background about it, I know nothing!

  13. That's my favorite of the four new artsy covers. I really like how the new artists have paid homage to the originals while staying true to Meg - her school sweatshirt and brace on the cover of Long May She Reign, for example.

As Melissa may have already told you, we're discussing Long May She Reign and the other books in the series all month long this month with other readers and the author herself at http://www.readergirlz.com and http://groups.myspace.com/readergirlz - Come join us!

  14. Melissa- I need to read this for sure! Thanks for talking about this on your blog etc!

Little Willow- Uh oh. I was a sloth and think I might have missed it! I'll come over and see what i missed!

  15. I didn't know this was a series! I have the original 1984 copy too... though I definitely didn't read it until at least 11, which was 90's. I remember loving The President's Daughter and am quite tempted to go find the others!

And, yes, I also like the updated covers, what a creative idea.
