Hardcover vs. Paperback 10

You Know Where To Find Me by Rachel Cohn

Hardcover

Jamal said only, "Laura..." And I knew, just knew by the rip through my gut and the instant convulsion in my heart, knew by Jamal's uncharacteristically unsmiling face. I knew because Laura always did what I wished I could do.

First cousins Laura and Miles grew up like sisters. Miles thought of Laura as the golden one -- smart, beautiful, rich, and popular -- while Miles considered herself the unwanted one -- an unattractive, underachieving outcast. Laura's suicide shatters Miles and leaves her feeling completely alone, and sets Miles on a dangerous downward spiral. But in the strength Miles finds in herself and in those she didn't believe cared about her, she is able to rebuild her life in unexpected ways.

Rachel Cohn's emotionally powerful new novel views serious issues such as depression, suicide, prescription-drug abuse, and alternative family configurations through the lens of family love and survival.

My vote is for the paperback, the hardcover makes the book look like it has a paranormal aspect to me, something creepy maybe ghosts or possession. Based on the description I like the paperback, I also think a face shows a lot more emotion and expression than someone's back.

Hardcover or Paperback?

Thanks goes to Hope of Hope's Bookshelf who also thought this would make a great Hardcover vs. Paperback!

  1. You're totally right, the hardcover makes the book look like its about the paranormal. That's exactly what i thought when i saw it. It's a cool cover, it just doesn't seem to fit the summary at all.

I liked the hardcover until I read the book's description, then I switched to the paperback.

  4. The hardcover reminds me too much of Deadly Little Secret (I know DLS probably copied, but still...)

  5. Lenore- You are so right, check back Friday to see the comparison between the two and another cover as well! :) I've been trying to match up Hardcover vs. Paperbacks with Lookalikes the same weeks that involve the same covers, thought that might be fun!

  6. Paperback. I've never wanted to know what the book was about with the hardcover. The paperback makes me a little more interested though.

  7. I'm another one who liked the hardcover until reading the description of the book. The paperback seems to portray it much better.

  8. Haven't read this one yet, but want to.

I think the hardcover is scary looking. Don't really like it. On the other hand, the paperback is so soft and pretty.

My vote goes to the paperback!

Hmmmm....if it's not paranormal, then I'd go with PPB.

  10. Hm....I actually like the HC better. It's just less busy and looks more professional. Cool feature!

  11. I like them both, but I think I like the paperback cover better. Even though, I think the paperback would've been better a little darker, because the book isn't all bright flowers and candy kinda stuff. lol. :)

    hope.

Yeah, I gotta go with the hardcover. While I see everyone's point about the paranormal vibes it gives (those were my first thoughts as well), after getting past that, the coloring on the HC, the attitude of the figure, walking away brought out much more vibrant emotions and I feel fit the description better.

The paperback cover has nothing to do with depression or suicide. It made me think more of a slightly detached love story.
