Hardcover vs. Paperback 15

Summer Intern by by Carrie Karasyov and Jill Kargman

Hardcover

Paperback

To do:

Secure models for photo shoot.
Fetch dry cleaning when it arrives from Paris.
Walk big star's makeup artist's assistant's dog.
Snag invitation to tonight's hot party downtown.

I'm Kira Parker, total fashion junkie. I thought I had it made when I landed a summer internship at Skirt, the preeminent fashion magazine. Ha. Don't get me wrong—working at Skirt, and spending the summer in New York City without my parents, is amazing. But now I'm up against Daphne Hughes, daughter of the magazine's owner. She's already got the guy of my dreams and all the right connections. Now she thinks she'll get the plum position working for the editor in chief without even lifting a diamond-adorned pinky? This catwalk is primed for battle.

I'm not sure if either of these covers fit the description, an intern doesn't usually get to be glamorous right? Has anyone read this book? Anyhow I like the paperback better, the first one makes me think of backstage at a concert.

Hardcover or Paperback?

  1. I prefer the paperback. I don't really like either cover, but I think the paperback is going to do a better job of getting teen girls to pick up the book. The hardcover just seems too cutesy for the summary and how I imagine the book to be (I haven't read it) as well. The paperback seems like a much more common YA cover, I think.

  2. I think the hardcover fits the description better (I agree, interns get kinda trod on), but the paperback one is cooler. The hardcover cover reminds me of that one series' cover, I think it's like Secrets of My Hollywood Life or something. All I know is it has Hollywood in the name.

  3. I really don't like either cover, but I'd go with the top one. There is something about the photo that seems weird to me.

  4. The Compulsive Reader- I thought that very same thing! They both have a bag thing going on! I think I compared them for a possible lookalikes and I'm not sure why I decided not to do it, have to revisit that!

  5. I have to agree with Beth. There's something I just don't like about the paperback photo. Maybe the models?

  6. Interns may think there is going to be glamour - but in most cases there is not. Perhaps this book is one of those rare exceptions.

In any case, I think I like the hardcover better because the models look really weird on the other.

  10. I don't really like either. I guess I would pick the hardcover because I would never pick up the paperback with that cover.

  12. I agree with many. Neither one are really doing anything for me. If I had to choose I'd go with the hardcover.

  18. Hardcover - the paperback one looks pretty cheesy - but then again I'm not exactly their target audience! I thought the top one looked like a diary with a lock on it at first but then realized it is a bag.
