Hardcover vs. Paperback 19

Hardcover

Paperback

Josh Mendel has a secret. Unfortunately, everyone knows what it is.
Five years ago, Josh's life changed. Drastically. And everyone in his school, his town—seems like the world—thinks they understand. But they don't—they can't. And now, about to graduate from high school, Josh is still trying to sort through the pieces. First there's Rachel, the girl he thought he'd lost years ago. She's back, and she's determined to be part of his life, whether he wants her there or not. Then there are college decisions to make, and the toughest baseball game of his life coming up, and a coach who won't stop pushing Josh all the way to the brink. And then there's Eve. Her return brings with it all the memories of Josh's past. It's time for Josh to face the truth about what happened.
If only he knew what the truth was . . .

Gotta go with the paperback in this case. I think for the most part simple is always better. I like the paperback's color palette much more as well as the title treatment.

Which is your favorite?

  1. My fave is you but we were talking about the books weren't we? I like the paperback too, I like clean looking covers with bold colour usage.

My fave is still you though :)

  3. I don't really like either cover, but if I had to chose, I'd probably go with the first one.

  5. I'm with you! Paperback all the way. Love the simplicity and all the apple implies.

  6. Okay, I don't really like either, but if I had to choose, I'd have to go with the second one. The green cover is more gentle than the pop-out-look-at-me!-look-at-me! hardcover.

I guess this book is another one that didn't get great covers. Much of Carolyn Mackler's books I feel the same way about, actually. Have you compared her hardcovers vs. paperbacks before?

  7. At first I thought hardback, but then I saw the tagline on the paperback and I think the cover makes sense for it. :)

  10. I prefer the hardcover- it just looks a lot cooler. The paperback isn't as eye-catching.

  11. I actually really like them both but I think if I were forced to pick I would choose the hardcover. I just think it is really eye catching

  12. I totally agree with Erika Lynn. I did like both of them, but if I had to choose I'd also go with the hardcover.

  13. Agree--I like the paper back. Cleaner, simpler, just...fresher.

  14. I prefer the hardback--it's harder to ignore. I think the paperback cover would be easy to overlook on a bookstore table. Plus, not exactly thrilled about the apple as a O; even if it's relevant to the story, I don't care to find out about it.

  15. Can I say I don't like either one. If I absolutely had to go with one though it would be the paperback.

  16. I like the hardcover! When it is in the library and has one of those clear dust jackets it looks great glossy!

  17. Green is my favorite color, so definitely the paperback. I also like the apple as the symbol of temptation.

  18. Tough one.. I like both. :)

  19. The silhouette of the woman catches my attention in the first one because it seems to go with the plot of the book. However, the cover as a whole is distracting.

I am going with the paperback!

  22. I'm not a big fan of either. The hardcover is definitely more eye-catching, but the second is cuter yet really girly. I like the simplicity and colors, though! (;

  23. After reading several reviews of this, I realized this was a different book than I had originally thought. With that in mind, I think the paperback works better.

  24. I like the hardcover the best!

  25. I guess personally the hardcover catches my attention too much and become distracting, I'm all about the understated details though! It kind of screams game show to me! :P

    Thanks for weighing in everyone!
