Bass Ackwards and Belly Up by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain
Paperback
Amazon.com:
For readers of the New York Times bestselling Gossip Girl and A-List series, here is a smart and highly commercial first novel about four best friends who, after graduating high school, decide to postpone the standard college route to pursue their creative dreams.
Harper Waddle, Sophie Bushell, and Kate Foster are about to commit the ultimate suburban sin--bailing on college to each pursue their dreams: write the next Great American Novel, make it as a Hollywood actress, and backpack around the world. Middlebury-bound Becca Winsberg is convinced her friends have gone insane...until they remind her she just might have a dream of her own. So what if their lives are bass ackwards and belly up? They'll always have each other.
Harper is going to be the next Jane Austen. Or Sylvia Plath. Or Plum Sykes. Figuring out which should be easy. It?s living with the lie she told her three best friends that's going to be hard.
Kate doesn?t know exactly what she wants. But whatever it is, she won't find it at Harvard. Maybe the answer is in Paris, or Athens? or anywhere Kate can be someone besides the girl with perfect grades, perfect hair, and the perfect boyfriend.
Sophie is a star. She's already got the looks, the talent, and a list of demands for her dressing room. Now that she's wrangled a furnished guesthouse in Beverly Hills, it's only a matter of time before she?s discovered. Unless she isn't.
Becca is dysfunctional. At least, her family is. Which is why she can't wait to flee the drama and get to college. But Becca's friends know she needs more than a spot on the Middlebury ski team and a cozy dorm room. They know she needs to fall in love.
Dreams are complicated. They almost never turn out like you imagine they almost always change. Sometimes, they change you.
Ok first of all, this sounds really good! Second of all, no contest here, the paperback wins! The hardcover looks like a girl on a balance beam or something, what the heck! The paperback totally fits the description to me!

Hardcover or Paperback?
ummm more color in the paperback and it has skies. which is pretty. paperback!
ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement. I like the paperback. It looks more fun. The layout of the title on the hardback is a bit off in relation to the girl on the cover (who really does look like she was on a balance beam). If that were fixed, I'd have a better reaction. Regardless, I like the paperback better.
ReplyDeleteI like the paperback too. The title treatment of the hardback bugs me.
ReplyDeleteI'm biased here because I have the hardcovers of both books in this series, so I'm going with hardcover. I'd go with the paperback but (grrr!) my hardback cover doesn't match the hardback cover of the second book. Meh.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn on this one.
ReplyDeleteLol, I really love this title! Have to go with the paperback as well. I might just have to pick this one up...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the title. LOVE the paperback! Definitely looks like something I'd read...
ReplyDeleteI really like the paperback.
ReplyDeleteAnd see, I am even visiting your blog on my vacation in Rhodes :)
I like the hardcover.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm being real bold and requesting that you come by and show us some lov'n at Little Lov'n MondayThanks,
Paperback all the way! I'd never seen the hardcover before though! I still like the PB better. :)
ReplyDeleteThe second for sure!
ReplyDeletePaperback looks better :)
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the hardcover too, although I have to agree that the paperback is even better!
ReplyDeletePaperback. I actually really dislike the hardcover.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to read this book. I think the paperback is fun because it looks like they're jumping on a trampoline.
ReplyDeletePaperback! I don't like the hardcover, it looks too dull IMO.
ReplyDeleteI don't like either!
ReplyDeleteare you serious? the second one hands down or belly up? hahaha :)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the majority of the people here: I prefer the paperback. I don't know about you but I'm not particularly fond of books that have someone's butt on them. Just saying . . .
ReplyDeletePaperback all the way, no contest
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of either, to tell the truth. The hardback looks totally boring. And when you look up close at it, it looks like the ponytail was pasted onto the head. Weird. So I guess I'm pro-paperback. But not by a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe hardcover looks like a self help book!
ReplyDeleteI agree with LisaMay, the hardcover looks like a self-help book...the paperback wins this one hands down.
ReplyDeleteYep I'm totally digging the paperback. I think it would be even cooler if the two outside people were facing the opposite direction. *shrugs* or maybe I'm just weird lol
ReplyDeleteHardcover, it reminds of when you're walking on the concrete things... the curb, lol, this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cf/Curb_gutter_storm_drain.JPG/400px-Curb_gutter_storm_drain.JPG
ReplyDeleteAnyone else do that?
i know this is really old but i just read this book a few weeks ago. the paperback is misleading because there are 4 girls who are main characters yet the PB only shows 3 books, same with the sequel.
