The Devouring by Simon Holt
I'm really not fond of the bloody eye (eww) or green color in the first cover so definitely the second cover. I kind of like the smudged eye makeup alone. But then again, the fog or smoke or whatever that purple stuff is, looks kind of placed on top, doesn't blend very well.
Which do you prefer?
Thanks to Yan for suggesting this lookalike!

I prefer the second cover.
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel like I've seen that same use of that girl on another book, but can't think of the name. I saw it while browsing in the bookstore a couple months back.
I agree about the smoke, Alea.
ReplyDeleteI prefer The Devouring's cover. Agreed on the bloody eye.
ReplyDeleteThat bloody eye is nasty. Looks like she has a bad case of pink eye or something. Definitely Devouring.
ReplyDeleteI like the Devouring cover too! Have you seen Jacket Whys? She has a similar idea. Also, the covers of Dirty Laundry, Generation Dead, and Cracked Up to Be use the same girl i think!
ReplyDeleteYUCK to bloody eye - ewww!
ReplyDeleteThe Devouring by far. I don't like the other one at all!
ReplyDeleteYikes on the bloody tear. :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, great find! I have to go with the second cover as well. The purple and the positioning of the face were what attracted me to the book in the first place.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THAT COVER!!! Love Devouring better b/c of the colors but i love the pic. umm duh i mean i only talked about it in my covers that work vlog!
ReplyDeleteThe second one is my favorite by far! The bloody eye is ewww!
ReplyDeleteI actually think I like the first cover better. I just like the colors more than the second one. I'm not big on the bloody eye but I like how it added color.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the second one, the first one looks so dead.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the second one looks better :)
ReplyDeleteNeither is doing it for me.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much agree with you. The bloody eye is gross, and the purple fog doesn't work well. I prefer The Devouring's cover. Too bad they didn't nix the purple fog!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to do a bloody tear, at least make it not look like Kool-aid! The one thing I do like better on the first cover is that you can really see the curve of the hair.
ReplyDeleteThe first cover is much better, but the color of the bloody tear isn't near dark enough. I really don't like the second cover though. The purple smoke isn't right the way it's placed over the image. It looks weird.
ReplyDeleteIck. Nasty bloody eye? Gross.
ReplyDeleteWow, the treatment of the picture is so different in the 2 pictures. I prefer the second cover.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about the bloody eye! Ouch! I would have never realized these two were look-a-likes!
ReplyDeleteThe Devouring by Simon Holt. The first one is a bit too icky.
ReplyDeleteDEFINITELY the second cover. The first one reminds me of the blue-ish tint that Twilight had, uck. That blue tint bothered me so much.
ReplyDeleteGreat covers. They look really cool. Well done to Yan for spotting them!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the blood (yuck) and the smoke (looks fake). And this cover (or the girl?) looks familiar...
ReplyDeleteYou always amaze me at finding these covers! I probably am just too brain fogged to remember a book I saw before! I prefer the second cover.
ReplyDeleteLove the Devouring cover. Smoky eyes are so cool to me.
ReplyDeleteI'd go with Thicker than Water.
