Hardcover vs Paperback 119

The Patron Saint of Butterflies by Cecilia Galante

Hardcover

Paperback

Agnes and Honey have been best friends for as long as they can remember. But everything is about to change, from their friendship to the only home they’ve ever known: a religious commune called Mount Blessing. Agnes loves being a believer and following the rules of the commune, but Honey has started to rebel. Then, when Agnes and Honey experience the outside world (on the run, no less), their friendship is tested further. After all, when everything you’ve ever known turns out to be a lie, how do you find the truth? A powerful story of faith, doubt, abuse, and above all, friendship.

Hmm I don't feel that either of these covers capture the feel I get from the summary. I like how the hardcover is more serious and introspective but it is missing something very important that the paperback has, both of the main characters. But the paperback makes the story seem a lot more lighthearted than the summary does.

Thanks to Alyssa who suggested this H vs P!

  1. I don't know that either captures the synopsis, either, but from a pure cover appeal stance- hardcover ALL THE WAY. It has more "interestingness" and makes you curious -- the other one looks like any run of the mill teen book.

  2. I think the problem with both of those covers if they're so similar to the covers of other books.

  3. id be more likely to pick up the paperback--it's adorable. and while i like the mysteriousness of the hardcover, it doesnt really do it for me. ive seen quite a few other covers with crystal balls in them, a la the secret society of the pink crstall ball, elsewhere...etc.

  4. Having read the book (I totally bought the hardcover when it came out), I don't think either of them is very representative of the story. I do kind of hate the paperback cover, though. It's much more lighthearted than the content -- pretty misleading.

  5. As far as general liking goes, I don't really care for the hardcover. I don't like how here face is all the same amount of blurriness, it kinds of hurts my eyes to look at. I'd be more likely to choose the paperback.

  6. I like bits and pieces of both covers but really neither one wholly.
