Booking Through Thursday: The Best Book You've Never Read

We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet.

What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet?

Well there are tons and tons and tons of those but I'll have to go with Looking for Alaska by John Green. I get scolded on a regular basis for not having read it. I'm hoping to read it this year as part of a challenge though! I bought it, I just need to read the darn thing!

How about you?

  1. Egads! You HAVEN'T? I'd give you a spanking for that one. Although if you've read his other books, Paper Towns, then it's okay if you haven't read LfA yet. They're pretty much the same book. Meh.

The best book I've never read would be... hmm. I don't know. I'm tempted to go with classics like The Catcher in the Rye, but I tried it, hated it, threw it down a couple chapters in. I just can't stand that character. What's his name? Holden? Holden Caulfield? Bleeeccchhh. If you can't not use cursing to express yourself, go back to middle school and grow up again.

So that didn't really count then, I guess. I'll go with Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. Have yet to read that one. Want to. Real soon. Hopefully. Hey! I know! My birthday's coming up, I'll ask my brothers for it as a Christmas present!

  2. Hunger Games.
    I know I know... I'm just awful.
And the thing is, I really want to read it. I don't know why I haven't! *blush*

  5. I'm changing my comment after some googling because apparently the consensus is that Holden does curse, but for the life of me I can't think of when, so it can't have been very frequently. And he definitely gets upset about seeing a curse written on the wall at the museum, because he knows little kids will see it.

But yeah, I still swear like a drunken pirate, so backing away slowly after adding:

Best book I never read, who knows, but I'll say Holes.

  6. How funny that you should mention Looking For Alaska. It has been on my shelf for a long time (John Green signed it for me when it first came out) and I still haven't read it. I am determined to read it this year.

  9. I have Looking for Alaska in a box, but I haven't read it either! I'm also lacking on a large majority of classics!

  11. Looking for Alaska is at the top of my towering tower of TBR’s. I need to read it, and want to read it to, but I want to read it when I have time to enjoy it and right now I don’t.

Do you ever do that? Put off reading something because you can’t give it the attention it deserves? I purposely waited to read the last Jordan Sonnenblick book I hadn’t read (“Notes from a Midnight Driver”) because I wanted to save it for an end-of-the-summer hurrah. And it got swallowed by my towering tower and didn’t re-emerge until December. Maybe I should learn from that and read Looking for Alaska NOW, but it’s also kind’ve like Christmas – part of the fun is looking forward to it.

  12. I don't know. I think all the hype and "zomg you have to read it" stuff made Looking for Alaska a slight let down. I was definitely expecting something else.
