The art on these covers, more so the paperback remind me of frescos which I think is a bit odd for this type of book but at the same time very fitting. To be honest there is something a little bit off putting about them for me.

So to start with, the paperback is actually a collection of the 3 books in the series (which all look similar to the hardcover). I've never been a fan of the hardcover (though the flip book sort of imagery could be a nice concept if the image was more interesting) until I saw the paperback and well I really don't have anything nice to say about it so I won't say anything. 

I feel like a lot of series are being released together in one book recently, it's definitely an economical way to purchase a series.

A's Valentine Surprise

Tonight I came home to a Valentine's Day surprise from A from Pretty Little Liars. I wasn't excepting anything from her so I was totally shocked and very excited!

As always she left a message with her treat but no clue this time. Wait, actually I was wrong, thanks to The Story Siren's post I realized the ? mark candy was supposed to be in the middle and on the bottom of the candy (you have to peel back the wrapper) there is a link to a clip from the show!

How cute is that? 

Is it just me or has Pretty Little Liars been getting really good lately? I always love the very last scenes of the episodes when we see A doing something but we don't see A!

This Week In Books or Finally the Week of NO BOOKS!

Y'all, it has finally happened. I've had a full week of no new books or any kind and from anywhere! This is the first time this has happened since I started This Week in Books waaaay back on July 29th of 2008! Can you believe it!!!

I'd say this is cause for celebration! I've gotten close a few times which 2 books but never none! *throws confetti* Here's the hopefully many more weeks like this, the books, they are everywhere!!!

I prefer the first cover since the picture covers the whole cover. If there was another picture in the bottom right hand of the second cover I don't think it would look as sparse. But as is it's very bare and uneven.

Weekly Dose of Crafts

Ahhhh Real Monsters! 

Ok sorry I'm a dork lol! But thanks to Tami I'm finally working on something other than my gray scarf! She suggested we both knit something from The Big Book of Knitted Monsters since we had it so I pulled out and book and picked Toothy Joe the Mailbox Monster because he seemed pretty easy. At first I had no idea what yarn to use and then it came to me. my TLC Essentials in Coraline! I had bought it to make some mittens and then decided against and never could think of anything to do with it, until now!

He doesn't look like much but hopefully by next Wednesday he'll look a little more monstery instead of blobby. To get the line of his mouth I had to bind off half of the stitches and now I'm trying to pick them back up again, but it is tight in there, ack!

Hmm I don't feel that either of these covers capture the feel I get from the summary. I like how the hardcover is more serious and introspective but it is missing something very important that the paperback has, both of the main characters. But the paperback makes the story seem a lot more lighthearted than the summary does.

I have to stick with the hardcover in this case. I think there is a disconnect when looking at the paperback and reading the summary. The summary only hints at sirens or mermaids (if that is what the book is even about) but the paperback SCREAMS it. So it's almost like spoiling the story before you know anything about it. I like how the hardcover takes a more vague approach.

This Year In Movies: January

 This month I watched 7 movies and and 3 tv shows on dvd.

Eat Pray Love - Interesting. Made me hungry lol.

The Kids Are Alright - Wonderful movie, I can definitely see why it's being nominated for awards.

Inception - Eh. Ok I guess. Leonardo DeCaprio's wife totally annoying the heck out of me and I actually really like that actress. The best part was Joseph Gordon Levitt floating around the hotel. A lot of people told me to put down my knitting and really pay attention, after watching it I don't think I really had to do that.

Monk Season 2 - So sweet and sad at the same time. Total win.

Monk Season 3 - I love how to show follows a formula sort of but never really gets boring or repeats itself.

Monk Season 4 - Still loving Monk. I had to pull myself away mid Season 5 to catch up on some tv I haven't been watching due to my Monk addiction!

Despicable Me - So great! I loved the story and the animation. Very cute.

Easy A - Hilarious. I need to see this again ASAP.

Going the Distance - Eh, not as good as I was hoping. I felt like Drew Barrymore was trying to play someone too young and I wasn't buying it at all.

Freakonomics - I thought the way this book was brought to the screen was brilliant. 4 filmmakers took a chapter from the book and explored it in a short documentary.

Weekly Dose of Crafts!

Ok this is getting depressing, I'm still working on this scarf and it still looks the same. I should put it down for something more colorful but I can't seem to. I will say this mindless knitting in the round is great for when I get home and I don't feel like doing much. Next time I need to pick a color with some variation in it though!

But with the three of them thrown together more and more, tension builds between Sarah and Ryan, and when they find themselves alone together at one point, they realize they just can't fight how they feel anymore.... 

 

While I enjoy both covers I think the hardcover speaks to the plot a million more times, but at the same time it's not a very original concept for a cover. As far as the paperback goes every time I see it I want to turn the girl right side up.

Weekly Dose of Crafts!

How sad, I only have 1 thing to share this week, remember when I had tons and tons, well no more. :( I only worked on my lace scarf but I worked on it a lot over the weekend actually and during the entire airing of the Golden Globes on Sunday, I couldn't stop! But since it is lace it really didn't get very big ha! Hopefully you got more crafting done than I did!

I've always thought the hardcover for this book was suggestive in a way that didn't really fit with the book but the paperback is a little blah, so this is a toss up for me.
