Hardcover vs. Paperback 34

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

Hardcover (US)

UK Edition

Borders.com:

In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

I've always been mesmerized by the US edition but there is definitely something very creepy about the UK/AU edition.

Which is your favorite?

Thanks to Adele for suggesting this Hardcover vs. Paperback!

UPDATE: 6/24/09: Diana Peterfreund added the German cover into the mix! Also, the UK cover was updated, seems the one I had had the wrong tag line, also click the image to see a nice, crisp large one!

  2. While I do love the UK/OZ cover, the US wins for me. It is much better. I love it so much!

  3. The UK/AU one doesn't stand out as much from the crowd as the US edition. The UK one really reminds me of *gasp* the Twilight series. Maybe that's the goal?

  15. Definitely the US cover. I can't even tell what's on the UK one... some kind of plant? But the US one captures the mood well and still looks really good.

  16. I like the UK/AU cover! It's so intriguing. The US is nice, too, but the other is very dark, which I like. I have no clue what it is, but I still like it. There are just too many books already with an image similar to that of the US cover.

UK cover, definitely. The image is a crumpled leaf which is shaped like a hand. very foresty-- but no actual woods.

  27. Well this one got me thinking; I think all of them are great (maybe its just the awesomeness of the book itself shining thru ^.^) But which one do I like best...

The girl on the US cover is almost exactly how I picture Mary, and the Forest has that level of creepyness that it needs - much better than the forest on the German cover. What I don't like about the German cover is how theres almost no space between the people and the rest of the Forest, making me think GET BEHIND THE FENCES YOU IDIOTS!! As for the UK/Oz cover, I like it, but its got hardly anything to do with the book besides it being a dead leaf. It's a little too Twilight for me, but it would help the average "knows nothing about this book except that its on the shelf in front of me" person try to either buy it or in some cases cringe away in terror.

Over all... lets say the US cover.
