Currently Enjoying...

1. Flicker from Berroco - This yarn is so light and squishy and it has a hint of metallic in it. 2. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling - I love her writing style and she has some great stories. 3. Prisma Chrome Eyeshadow from Sephora - I happened into Sephora the day these were released and couldn't leave without a few. 4. Ceremonials by Florence + The Machine - Have been listening to this over and over again on Spotify. 5. Twirl from Kate Spade - Got a sample of this and couldn't go more than a week or two without buying it! 6. Special Effects Flackies Collection from Finger Paints - I'm convinced this is 2012's answer to 2011's Crackle Polish. Check out some swatches here. Rumor has it these will only be sold in store not online so if you are interested head over to your nearest Sally Beauty, I got the last ones my store had! 7. Friendship Bracelets from Jewelmint - I've been kind of obsessed with Jewelmint for the past few months and have loved the 4 pieces of jewelry I've gotten off the website. There are all styles of jewelry and new things every month. Sign up here to take a style quiz to see your recommended pieces. 8. Coca Cola Zero - Sometimes I like to mix mine with grenadine. 9. Chelsea Flats from Payless - I bought these glittery flats in 3 colors. It's a party on your feet! 10. Jane By Design by ABC Family - This show just makes me giddy, so far in the first episode there wasn't anything I didn't like. Can't wait for more. 11. Dream Bouncy Blush from Maybelline - Some of you may know I've become somewhat of a makeup junkie in the last year and I have a thing about blushes that have a formula out of the ordinary. These look like a powder blush but they are almost like a spongy creme. Amazing and fun to put on! 12. Mollie Makes Magazine - I love that this is a mix of lifestyle and diy. Fun for crafty ideas. 13. iPad case from Missoni for Target - Was excited to get this for Christmas, my iPad didn't have a home until now!

I first did this type of post all the way back in 2007 and have been wanting to do it again ever since.

Special Delivery!

A few weeks ago I was contacted about a special online campaign for Andrea Cremer's upcoming book Nightshade. Definitely being one for creative advertising and promotion (I still can't get over the Pretty Little Liars Secret Keepers Game) I responded that I was definitely interested.

Flash forward to today when I go to get the mail, only to find out there is a long box in there, so long the mailman used a rubber band to keep the mailbox as shut as he could.

This is what was inside (and yes that's my blanket again - i bet you are getting sick of it):

The little card says "An Invitation"

Inside was a Calla lily (yes it's fake, and yes I had to ask my mother what kind of flower it was) similar to that on the book cover. Ripped up inside were pages of Crime and Punishment and a key that was actually a jump drive, hello awesome!

I stuck the key into my computer and turns out the jump drive was named Alea! and there were 2 files, one that said to watch it first. It was a video from the author Andrea Cremer, personalized for me, she talks a bit about her upcoming book Nighshade and how to start off the book she's creating a prequel in the form of webisodes. Everyone can join in the fun and help Shay, the star of the videos solve a mystery! The first video was on the jump drive and I have to say it's pretty cool. Favorite Books of 2009

I stressed out over this for weeks (didn't do a list last year) and then realized I had given only 9 books I read last year 5 stars, so problem solved. They are in chronological order because I'm weird like that. I'm pretty sure these were all released in the United States in the year 2009. Click the titles to read my review for each. Kind of funny how there would be months without a 5 star book and then a few clustered together. Also it's very apparent I read a lot of Young Adult literature this year!

Ghost Girl Audio Book
Ghost Girl is also out as an audio book and what's cool about this is it's narrated by Parker Posey, who is awesome! Check it out here!

New Razorbill Website
Recently discovered Razorbill has a new website, which is mighty fancy! Check it out here.

Private Web Series
The Private Book series by Kate Brian has been turned into a web series which I really want to check out, you can watch it here! I found out about this while browsing in Borders and noticed they issued new covers to correspond with the web series! Has anyone watched it? What do you think? I feel a Hardcover vs. Paperback coming on...

Perfect on Paper
Perfect on Paper which I reviewed last year here by Maria Murname has gotten a publishing contract with Amazon! I'm so excited for Maria, I loved Perfect on Paper and am so glad to hear that it's going to get out there to more people, it's a great book! I'm excited to see how it will be repackaged!

Louder Than Words Series + Live Streaming Broadcasts

Last week, Louder Than Words a wonderful and unique concept was brought to my attention. I'm very excited to be able to share it with you. Louder Than Words is a series of teen authored memoirs being published in August by HCI Books (same publisher as Everything Sucks). They are releasing their first three memoirs which are (from the Louder Than Words website):

Marni

Marni pulls. Her hair, that is.

Struggling with the stress disorder trichotillomania, Marni’s compulsion to yank out her eyebrows, eyelashes…even the hair from the top of her head, makes surviving high school no easy feat.

When Marni first started pulling, it helped her turn off her brain and escape the stresses of the world around her. Unfortunately, she didn’t realize she was hooked until it was way too late.

Emily

Emily’s the sick one. All of the time.

Plagued with some sort of cold or fever or bizarre ache or pain for much of her life, Emily thought the dizziness and stomachaches at the start of her senior year were just another bout of “Emily flu.” But when they didn’t go away, she knew something serious was wrong.

Eventually diagnosed with the rare and incurable West Nile virus, Emily watched her senior year and the future she had planned for go up in smoke.

Chelsey

Chelsey was dealt the unthinkable.

When her only surviving parent, her beloved father, was violently murdered days before her fourteenth birthday, Chelsey’s life was forever changed.

Forced to come to terms with a new home life, a new school…a new identity as an orphan, Chelsey struggled to make sense of her personal tragedy and find a way to flourish despite the odds.

Burn This Book

I know a lot of people in the reading/blogging community are very interested in censorship and the thought behind it. Here's a book that was recently brought to my attention that might interest you on the subject!

Harper Studio:

Published in conjunction with the PEN American Center, Burn This Book is a powerful collection of essays that explore the meaning of censorship, and the power of literature to inform the way we see the world, and ourselves. Contributors include literary heavyweights like Toni Morrison, Salman Rushdie, Orhan Pamuk, David Grossman and Nadine Gordimer, and others.

In “Witness: The Inward Testimony” Nadine Gordimer discusses the role of the writer as observer, and as someone who sees “what is really taking place.” She looks to Proust, Oe, Flaubert, and Graham Greene to see how their philosophy squares with her own, ultimately concluding “Literature has been and remains a means of people rediscovering themselves.” In “Freedom to Write” Orhan Pamuk elegantly describes escorting Arthur Miller and Harold Pinter around Turkey and how that experience changed his life.

There is a really cool contest going on in Sarahland right now and it's interactive! Speaking of Sarah Dessen two of my lovely twitter pals helped me out when I was getting all confused about Sarah Dessen's boys. I've only read two of her books so this is mighty helpful! From Karen Healey we have this sweet flowchart! And from my blogger pal Mya this sweet Condensed Guide to the hottest of Dessen guys chart! You guys rule!

And finally Along For the Ride debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Another book I loved, Dork Diaries also found a spot on the list as well! Congratulations!

There is now a Traveling to Teens website (the blog is still around but it's for participants only) for anyone that is interested in learning more about it! Go check it out! I think they are all well done but of course wish I had the AU edition! I'm curious to see what the significance of the paperback is once I read it, just as is it's my least favorite of all of them.

SATURDAY: BEA Day 2 + Geektastic Party

Today I got to sleep a bit later (thank god) Oh shoot I waited to long and my memory is started to get fuzzy! I'm pretty sure I met up with Gail and we looked around. Oh yes, we went to the Bloomsbury booth and also stopped by the Hachette booth, where the large chained up bin of "banned books" was finally open. It turns out the banned book was a new YA book by James Patterson called Witch and Wizard, great marketing I say! After roaming around for a bit we headed over to the Firebrand/Netgalley booth for my 10am Blogger "Signing" slot. Here are a few pictures.

I had a lovely time at the Blogger "Signing" Booth chatting with fellow bloggers and also a few very sweet people that came over and said Hi to me, it was very nice chatting with you guys!

At the end of the day Gail and I really wanted to sit down so we got something from Starbucks and took a seat! Once BEA came to a close that day I headed back to the hotel to lay around. I think I may have taken a nap, can't remember! I know I had Burger King for dinner, how horrible am I! It was around the corner!

Then it was time for the Geektastic Party at Lucky Strike Lanes! I went to meet Amy at her hotel and we headed over! Gail, Bethany, Laura, and Sharon were already there chilling on a couch! And we found Lenore later on! Now here's my problem, for me to talk to a complete or almost complete stranger I have to know something about them to bring up. So a ton of people I didn't know there so I sort of hid on the couch, but it wasn't just me! Some wonderful authors came over and chatted with us including Barry Lyga, Scott Westerfeld, Holly Black, Elizabeth Scott, and Sara Zarr. I bet you wouldn't be surprised to find out I talked to a few of them about their book covers LOL!

I took next to no pictures, I'll blame it on being exhausted! Anyhow it was a lot of fun! Sadly this was the last time I saw Amy and Lenore as they weren't going to be at BEA the next day, they were nice enough to walk me back to my hotel when the cranky cab driver didn't want to take me over there!
